Underage driver at the rear of the wheel in rollover

Toronto Escort Agency – An underage boy was behind the wheel during a car rollover in Toronto Escort Agency that’s left one of his four teenage passengers on life-support, police said Monday.
The 15-year-old boy was trying to make a right turn when the car flipped around 1 a.m. Sunday near Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East.
A 16-year-old passenger in the back seat was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car. The boy is on life-support and is not expected to survive.
The driver is out of hospital, but three other 15-year-old boys remain under observation with non-life threatening injuries.
Toronto Escort Agency police say alcohol was not involved but speed was a factor. Media reports suggest stunt driving may be a possible cause but Staff Sgt. Brian Bowman said that is still unclear.
Investigators expect to lay charges against the driver, he added.
“We’re still collecting evidence and the driver is a youth under the Youth (Criminal) Justice Act, so we will be consulting with a Crown attorney before the charges are laid,” said Bowman.
He said it is relatively rare to see an underage driver behind the wheel.
“The classic scenario is grab the parents car when no one is watching, and go for a ride,” Bowman said. “But generally I don’t think they end up reaching this type of an issue where there’s a major crash.”
